The stream we fished was a tributary to the Provo River and like I mentioned before is home to Bonneville cutthroat trout, the last species we needed for the slam. Native to the Bear River, the Bonneville cutthroat can be found in the Smith’s Fork and Thomas Fork drainages, both tributaries to the Bear River. Also as I attempt my first Utah Cutthroat slam I’d like to have a chance to catch and photograph the finest specimen available. In fact, only a few decades ago the Bonneville Cutthroat Trout was thought to be extinct and/or genetically compromised in essentially all of its native range.
